Out In The World
Every time I do a show, I write a script. Some people call it a play, and in certain ways it is. I play with real-life episodes and condense the experience and wisdom I gathered from them into a story I can share with my audiences.
The Cortázar Approach
There are certain artists that, just in the way they approach their work, have a resonance with me. I believe it is a question of sensibility that allows me to connect deeper with their line of work; therefore, I enjoy and study anything they do.
On Everything And Nothing
Tom Waits needs no introduction. The famous composer and musician is unique as a character, as his voice is unmistakably recognized as soon as he starts singing. His lyrics are funny and provocative but profound, and his piano ballads are incredibly poetic.
Right Rhythm
Tempo is one of the most critical aspects of sleight-of-hand. A great magician can slow his actions, even the secret ones, so that if the audience is staring right at his hands, they will not feel suspicious moves.
More Lights
Something is fascinating about lights being part of brainteasers that I still cannot grasp. Maybe it is the fact that a lightened lightbulb is symbolic of a Eureka! moment, a discovery or unlock of sorts.
Fancy Pool Wizard
Magic techniques are sometimes used secretly. It’s common to see them used in other areas to enhance or aid a demonstration. And although it’s impossible to know for sure at times, the likelihood of that happening is very high when specific claims are made.
Unstuck In Time
There are people I would love to have met, but I will never be able to. One of them is Kurt Vonnegut, one of the funnier thinkers I have ever encountered in my readings. His writing style, witty sense of humor, and poignant view of life's meaning have created some extraordinary pieces of art.
Religious Duty
Gambling is considered by many people a recreation, and rightfully so. But it can also be a way to make a living for others. What I never considered it to be is a religious duty. But I was surprised to learn about it.
Pile-Up Reality
One of the exciting things about lateral-thinking problems is that it challenges our preconception notion of reality. Usually, we are faced with a bizarre situation, but once we know the answer, everything makes sense.
Fun To Imagine
Richard Feynman was an interesting character. Although this Nobel Prize winner considered himself an “ordinary” man, he was one of the main ones responsible for disseminating science and critical thinking in the mainstream media.
